März 1810 war mal wieder großer Umtrieb in der Stadt Pforzheim. Es galt einen hohen Gast zu begrüßen. Die österreichische Kaisertochter und Erzherzogin Marie Luise.Die sollte nämlich Napoleon Bonaparte heiraten. Auf dem Weg nach Paris war ein Zwischenstopp im Pforzheimer Hotel Post eingeplant. Ihr wisst schon. Ein kleiner Snack, Besuch im Ort der Heimlichkeiten und ein wenig frisch machen.Schon seit den frühen Morgenstunden war die Bevölkerung auf den Beinen um der Prinzessin zuzujubeln. Die Straßen waren merkwürdig sauber, festlich geschmückt und überall sah man Galakleidung und Ehrenuniformen.Und natürlich sah man jede Menge Frauen. Die verteidigten ihren Stehplatz vor der Posthalterei vehement und energisch. Wann sah man schon einmal eine leibhaftige Prinzessin und bald die Frau des mächtigsten Mannes auf der Welt! Als dann Kanonendonner und Kirchengeläut ertönte, stieg die Spannung ins Unermessliche,Zuerst kam die Ehrengarde der französischen Reiter und danach die lange Reihe der Reisewagen. Im ersten Reisewagen saß die Prinzessin mit ihren engsten Hofdamen. Es folgten unendlich viele Gepäckwagen mit der fürstlichen Aussteuer. Die erwartungsvolle Menschenmenge raunte aaaah und ooooh, aber die Prinzessin stieg aus der Kutsche und verschwand schnell ohne zu winken in der Posthalterei.Die Frauenwelt war bitter enttäuscht und manch Ausruf " So eine arrogante Pute" erklang.Auch die Bevölkerung von Niefern war beleidigt.Sie hatten an der Grenze zum württembergischen Königreich eine schöne Thrimpfpforte gebaut, aber auch diese durchfuhr die Kaisertochter ungerührt. Die junge Marie Luise war gerade mal 19 Jahre jung. Für sie war Napoleon der Feind und Antichrist schlechthin.Sie hatte sogar eine Napoleon-Puppe, die sie eifrig malträtierte.Jetzt wurde sie von Napoleon zu dieser Zwangsheirat genötigt.Dabei war sie doch in den Erzherzog von Modena verliebt. Aber die Staatsraison geht vor und Kaiser Franz musste schweren Herzens seine Tochter dem verhassten Feind geben. Klar hatte da die Prinzessin keine Lust Kusshände unter dem Volk zu verteilen. Fuhr sie doch einem unsicheren Schicksal entgegen.Schon 1811 gebar sie Napoleon einen Sohn und konnte nach Napoleons Untergang 1814 nach Wien in das Schloss Schönbrunn zurückkehren.1810 war Napoleon der mächtigste Mann der Welt. Nur Russland und England wehrten sich tapfer. Weil er die Seemacht England nicht angreifen konnte, entschloss er sich zum Russlandfeldzug, der seinen Untergang einläutete. Vorher verhängte er jedoch gegen England eine Kontinentalsperre. Das heißt, es konnten keine Waren exportiert oder importiert werden.Dies war für die Pforzheimer Schmuckindustrie ein harter Schlag.Von ehemals über 30 blühenden Betrieben konnten gerade mal 13 Betriebe sich mit Müh und Not über Wasser halten.So herrschte 1812 wieder einmal bittere Not und Elend in Pforzheim. Man war ja in Pforzheim Raub, Brandschatzung und Vergewaltigung von den Franzosen unter Männern wie Melac gewohnt, aber dieses wirtschaftliche Elend war eine neue Form der Grausamkeit.
